With smart lighting, you can automatically regulate the brightness of your LED lights, control devices remotely and thus not only create a very specific atmosphere, but also save money.
In this guide you will find out how Smart Home works for modern lighting offered by Cabsy.
LED Lamps
LED lamps are electrical light sources that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to generate light. Like compact fluorescent lamps, they are among the energy-saving lamps.
The service life of LED lamps is specified as up to 50,000 hours. At 2700 K, conventional incandescent lamps have a service life of around 1000 hours. In addition, LED lamps require less electrical power for the same brightness. They therefore achieve a higher degree of effectiveness or they have a higher energy efficiency.
Considered over their entire service life, although they usually involve higher investment costs, they are significantly more economical than most other lamps due to the lower operating costs.
What is a Smart Home?
With Smart Home applications you link technical devices and installations in your household with each other. You control them remotely PoE Lighting or you can program them to work automatically. With Smart Home you can increase your security, save energy costs and increase your comfort - and in this way create a more comfortable home.
There are now a large number of home kits, ranging from individual applications to system solutions with different technologies. In order for a control unit and various applications and devices to become a smart home, they must interact with each other.
There are many different wireless protocols for wireless connections: Wifi, ZigBee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth and EnOcean are just a few examples. ZigBee, for example, is supported by manufacturers such as Philips and is mostly used for products such as motion detectors.
However, manufacturers have often developed their own radio protocols for their smart home products. Systems that communicate via this do not allow the integration of products from other manufacturers.
Open systems, on the other hand, also support third-party products. If the Smart Home is to be remotely controlled via the Internet, either a central control unit with a gateway (also known as a bridge) must be able to communicate with the Internet, or the other Smart Home components must be connected directly to a WiFi router in a network.
Smart LED lighting – the technology at a glance
If you want to control a lamp with your smartphone, you can use a smart lamp that can be controlled via Bluetooth. Similar to other devices, you connect the smartphone directly to the lamp and can switch it on and off, change the brightness or the lighting mood. The smartphone serves as a remote control.
However, this light control requires that you are not too far away when controlling it. If you want to remotely control one or more lamps from anywhere, you have to connect the lamps to a router - for example using a bridge. The light control is set up using an app from the respective manufacturer.
You can also control some systems using voice control via voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri if you have set them up accordingly beforehand. You can also use the voice assistants to change the light color of the lamps if it is a smart light bulb. Ceiling lights can also be switched on and off with a voice command.
Smart extension of LED-Lamps
A simple way to try out smart light is to use a smart socket. Remote-controllable sockets or smart plugs communicate via WiFi or radio standards, depending on the version. If you plug a normal lamp into a Wifi socket, you can switch your light on and off from anywhere using your smartphone and are not dependent on a switch.
The lamp only has to be switched on once using the light switch. Then you can easily switch it on by voice command , remote control or app switch on anytime and anywhere.
Similarly controllable are also ceiling lights: You can replace existing light switches with smart flush-mounted switches and then switch the light on and off using an app or terminate the control in the app. This is also possible with some language assistants via voice control.
Extraordinary LED lamps
In the smart home area, there are not only upgrade options, but also small lighting systems or lamps that can be controlled individually. For example, LED Lighting, for indirect lighting, lights with color changes, modular solutions made of combinable LED panels or lamps with integrated loudspeakers bring an unusual decorative aspect.
Do you prefer warm white lighting, which helps you relax, or bluish, cool light to help you concentrate? Vibrant lights of different colors that match the rhythm of your music create a party atmosphere.
From the starter set to the complete system
Always the right light from waking up to falling asleep – and all automatically and easily. Starter sets are relatively easy to install and are available for just one or two bulbs. The installation usually only takes a few steps.
This is why starter sets are ideal for people who want to get a feel for smart lighting. If you want to equip your apartment or house with smart lighting, you can use complete systems. The manufacturer Philips offers the largest portfolio with the Hue systems. Philips Hue combines energy-saving LED light with smart technology.
The manufacturer offers three types of smart bulbs in different shapes, sizes and models: Hue White, Hue White Ambiance and White & Color Ambiance. But the Apple Homekit also offers you the opportunity to control your home smart from anywhere.
